Happy Mom's Day!

Thank you moms for all that you do!
Mother's day is coming up this Sunday.  Let's take a few minutes to honour our moms!  What do you love most about your mom?  Try and come up with at least three things that your mom does that no one else can do better.  In the comment box, list the top three favourite things about your mom.  The first person to write me a comment will receive a special treat!

THREE THING I LOVE ABOUT MY MOM:

She always wants to hear about what's going on in her grandkids lives (and sending presents in the mail!)

She remembers everybody's birthday...even if they are not related to her!

She puts herself last and always thinks of others first!

P.S.  I know I said to list three but...my mom makes the BEST mashed potatoes!

Walking in the Gatineaus

Just got back from a hike in the Gatineaus!  We took some kids from our street there too!  It always amazes me how much fun kids have when they just go outside...no tv, videos etc.  They had a blast and came back exhausted!  We went to get a McFlurry on the way back (well...I got a McCafe!).  Nice way to end the Easter holiday.  What did you do on your days off?  Check out the video of our trek in Quebec (that rhymes!)http://animoto.com/play/8IshNsQ0Ki3iuGjGDe5TVg#

What to do on a rainy day?

What do you like to do when it rains all day?  We went out for breakfast and then went to see 'Diary of a Wimpy 2' (funny).  That killed about 4 hours in the day...what to do with the other hours.  Lego, video games, tv...nothing very active.  Do you have any suggestions that involve getting active while inside the house?  I am scratching my head and the only thing I can think of is Nerf Tag.  That only works if more than one person wants to play!  Help me out...what do YOU do when the weather outside is miserable?

Jason's Team is the Ultimate Team!

Jason's team, "The Sharks", did indeed win their super final game...5-3.  They are the champions in their division and overall for Nepean Raiders Novice 'B'.  Way to go...going out to celebrate!

Hockey season is almost over!

Well, this weekend is the last weekend of hockey for the Addison's (for this season). Jason's team won their division and tomorrow (at 7 am) will participate in the Super Final (Go, Sharks, Go!). Unfortunately, David's team lost 3-2 in a nail-biter of a finish. No.1 all season and this happens. They persevered however and should be proud of their accomplishments. I am baking a cake for Jason's team potluck for tomorrow (after...hopefully...winning the game). I will not get to see the game as I have a 42 km run early Sunday morning. Rain will fall in the afternoon so that's ok. The soccer season is fast approaching us we have the weekends to look forward to...no early practices or games. What are your plans? Do you do anything special with your family when you have a weekend to yourselves? The weather looks like it is improving...maybe it is time to pump up the bike wheels and hit the road! Oh yes...and go to Canadian Tire to get soccer cleats...

Spring has Sprung?

Spring really is a beautiful time!
I went for a run this morning...without 10 kgs of extra clothing.  Does this mean that Spring is officially here? The air was still crisp (remember this is 7 am!) and I think I heard the birds chirping up in the trees.  You definitely feel more alive and it sure beats running in snow and gail-force winds.  My kids play outside more when the weather warms up...it is like they come out of hibernation!  It's not like they never go out in the winter, more like it takes more prodding to get them out the door!  The bikes have been taken out of the shed along with scooters and bike helmets.  Cries for new running shoes can be heard in the mud room as they try on shoes from last year.  Yep...I guess you do grow over the winter.  After homework and supper, they rush outside to play and at the end of the day burst in the door with rosy red cheeks.  I LOVE it! A benefit of this extra activity is they don't seem to mind going to bed at night...they are TIRED.  The point of all of this really is to ask the following question: What do you like to do when springtime arrives? Funny thing is, as I write this blog, the weather report is calling for...SNOW!

Your comment will not be seen by others until I approve it.

What is April Fools Day and how did it begin? Well, that is a very good question. The origin of this holiday is rather uncertain. However, the common belief holds that during the reformation of the calendar the date for the New Year was moved from April 1st to January 1st. During that time in history there was no television or radio so word spread slowly. There were also those who chose to simply ignore the change and those who merely forgot. These people were considered "fools" and invitations to non-existent parties and other practical jokes were played on them.
"All Fools' Day" is practiced in many parts of the world with practical jokes and sending people on a fool's errand. Others believe that the origin began with celebrations at the Spring Equinox.
My kids attend French school and they call it 'Poisson d'Avril'...translation:  April Fish?  They fool their friends by taping a paper fish to their friends' backs.  When someone discovers this trick, they yell...you guessed it..."Poisson d'Avril!"  I still don't get it but hey it works for them!  I wonder what tricks or gags some of you have up your sleeves?  Jokes and gags must be harmless and fun.  They must not be dangerous or hurt anyones feelings. Perhaps you can dress strangely on Friday or wear your hair in an unusual fashion!   I guess I will just have to wait and see.  Oh, yes, you do have a math test on April Fool's Day and it is NOT a trick (it is a real, report-card worthy test!).  Good luck and keep an eye on your backs!
